I caught Redbird Beanie getting chummy with Cubbie Beanie this past week under the Christmas tree at Trenton Pharmacy in Trenton, Ill. At first, I wasn't sure what to make of that. I'm a dyed-in-red St. Louis Cardinal fan, as are most of my friends in these parts. However, some of my best friends are Cub fans. It's a tricky situation. After all, I'm living in the state of Illinois, so there's that Chicago connection, but I'm living in southwestern Illinois, just 23 miles east of St. Louis, Mo., which puts me in the heart of Cardinal country. Hereabouts, we're pretty much all Cardinal fans, and the Cubs are those longtime northern rivals. So, Redbird Beanie gettin' cozy with Cubbie Beanie under the Christmas tree, the holy evergreen? Hmm. OK. I guess I can roll with that. Peace on Earth, goodwill toward Beanies.
