U.S. Marines in 1976 at Camp Lejeune, N.C., push an AV-8A Harrier attack jet into a covered opening along a forest landing zone during a training exercise. With the jet's unique ability to land and take off vertically,  Harrier pilots can position their aircraft relatively close to the Marines fighting in a combat zone.
