I am a writer, former editor and forever photojournalist.
I entered the world as Thomas Earl Griggs in East St. Louis, Ill., well before the year in which East St. Louis was selected as an All-American City. That, of course, means I was born a long time ago. I grew up in Lebanon, Ill., and I live there now, although my primary residence is in Lake Arrowhead, Calif.
After a 20-year career in the U.S. Marine Corps, followed by a few years as a full-time student at Cal State San Bernardino and then a few years as a mountain guide, I embarked upon a career in journalism. I have plied my trade as a reporter, photographer, columnist and editor. I've worked for such newspapers as the Redlands Daily Facts, the 119-year-old daily in historic Redlands, Calif.; the award-winning Daily Press (Victor Valley Daily Press), which covers the high-desert communities in the Victorville, Calif., region; Times Community Newspapers, a division of the Los Angeles Times; The Press-Enterprise, the award-winning daily out of Riverside, covering most of inland Southern California; and the overseas daily Stars and Stripes.
Now I'm taking time to photograph my native state, while attempting to try my hand at creative writing.
